Wow, what an eventful week!
Just to recap, over the weekend a couple of our members volunteered at SHPE’s Dia de Ciencias. We saw many bright, young faces who were ready to learn about projects and hear stories about college experiences. Seeing the students’ eagerness is what pushes us to give back to the community. We were once their age and we wouldn’t be anywhere if we didn’t have the support we have today from peers.

Just when we thought we were getting the hang of things, more and more hurdles arise that we must overcome. This week, the structures team was able to run a simulation with Open Rocket, however they did not hit target apogee. In order to push the incentive to find an appropriate model rocket we had to come up with an idea that would get us results as soon as possible. The result, a friendly competition between the team for those who can find the most apt model that can reach 10,000 feet apogee – more updates to come when we are successful.
Here at Aerospace Systems our mission is to lay the groundwork for a breakthrough in aerospace on campus and to engineer a rocket that will reach space by 2025. We plan to inspire students to get fascinated about space exploration and we welcome any level of skill, strongly encouraging any contributions. As an organization, we participate in and host outreach events to connect with peers and the community to motivate them to get engaged. The organization is currently in the process of building a rocket and this June we plan to enter it into the Spaceport America Cup: Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition alongside other collegiate teams from around the world. Here on this blog we’ll be updating on project progress, current events that the organization is involved in, future projects, and most importantly making sure to keep everyone in the loop.
