About AeroSpace Systems Aerospace Systems was founded in the summer of 2016 by a group of BCOE students who quickly realized how many of their fellow students shared their interests. What initially began as just a handful of students trying to build their own hybrid rocket engine quickly turned into a club once they realized how many students lived and breathed aerospace just like them and wanted to help accomplish their goals. Upon establishment the group's mission evolved from simply creating their rocket engine to providing a space in which students could fall in love with aerospace and everything it has to offer.
Over the past years the organization has grown from its initial 10 members to a consistent 60 active members. Not only creating 4 different rockets in the process but also successfully competing in NASA’s Micro-g NeXt challenge in the 2016-2017. Even more impressive is the work that has been done on designing our own liquid rocket engine which is set to be completed this summer 2019. However outside of projects the organization has been able to start establishing itself in the community working with multiple schools and even the homeless shelter to inspire the youth to get interested in STEM. The organization has also grown its relationships throughout the years gaining multiple sponsors resulting in steady funding. In turn this has allowed for consistent growth in both the projects conducted and the outreach events held. This also led to the creation of the Aerospace Systems Lab, an off campus lab that allows students to gain hands-on experience in multiple aerospace related projects. Outside of just monetary or material sponsorship we’ve also had the pleasure of receiving mentorship from the CEO and CFO of Inter-Orbital Systems, the Friends of Amateur Rocketry, as well as multiple NASA engineers. The experience our organization has provided to its members has allowed some of them to gain internships in JPL, Northrop Grumman, Flabob Airport and other aerospace related companies. |
